For developers
Let your AI agent make Minecraft skins.
A Texel skin is a JSON file with a palette and a list of drawing steps. Your agent writes it, renders it, reads the review and fixes whatever it flags.
brief
Format
Skins as JSON
Selectors target faces of the player model: head.front, legs.sides@overlay. Faces use local coordinates, so “the bottom two rows of every leg” is one line. Pixel art is just strings.
- 13 operations fill, rect, pixels, gradient, noise, shade, mirror and more.
- Deterministic The same spec produces the same PNG in the browser, the CLI and the MCP server.
- Never throws Invalid layers are skipped and reported with a JSON path and a fix hint.
Families
Many skins from one file
A family is a base spec plus patches. Axes multiply: three guilds × two ranks is six consistent skins. Guilds recolor palette roles; ranks toggle layers by id.
Pick a member to see the patches that build it.

A single self-contained file: nine tools (render, validate, save, families, import, diff), three prompts, and an interactive 3D viewer in MCP Apps hosts. Works offline; writes stay inside a workspace directory.
claude mcp add texel -- node texel-mcp.mjsThe repository is a plugin marketplace. One install wires the MCP server to your project and adds the skill.
claude plugin install texel@texelA portable SKILL.md in the open Agent Skills format: the protocol, the rubric and the pitfalls. Works with the MCP tools or the CLI.
~/.claude/skills/minecraft-skin-design/SKILL.mdBrowser agents drive the studio through window.texel or WebMCP tools. Or open a URL with the spec in the hash and take a screenshot.
texel.setSpec(spec) · /studio/?view=inspect#spec=…One file, Node 18+, no dependencies. Builds the PNG, a review sheet and a markdown review; handles families, imports and diffs.

Write it in any language. Paste it into Claude, ChatGPT or any agent with web access. You can follow the skin in the studio while the agent works.
